The Romance & Relationship
Abi and Declan’s relationship is a hit or miss, depending on if you like the trope (rich x poor). I personally love the trope, but I found the actual romance in this relationship a bit lacking. It wasn’t until the end that I felt like Declan’s gifts and gestures were actually romantic. But by then, we’re already at the end of the book!! Give me more meaningful moments earlier on!

The Characters
Abi
I loved Abi! I think she was a really relatable character given the situation (and plot). I think her realizations, and reasonings, near the end make a lot of sense as to why she acted why she did.Β
You can tell their distinct perspectives around money/finances. Abi works multiple jobs just to get by on the bare minimum, and barely at that. Yet, she still doesn’t feel comfortable with any of the wealth given to her. She always tried to stay true to herself!
Declan
We love a respectful millionaire who uses his money for good! And… that’s about all I can think of when I think of Declan. He plays his role as the rich love interest well!
As an individual, he doesn’t stand out much to me. A lot of his character revolved around his perceived work status but that only went so far in the plot; his side hustle was a lot more interesting and played a bigger part (in my opinion).
Other Characters
All the side characters were there to play their part and that was it. There for their couple of scenes and gone with the wind. Fun characters though!

The Setting & Style
What I Loved:
I really loved that Abi’s writing, and story, mirrored what was happening to her! Obviously everything was inspired by what she was experiencing, but the beginning of her “book” matched the exact beginning of the actual book and I thought that was a cool detail to notice!
Also, not me (a lifelong Midwesterner) googling if the Midwest DOES have scorpions?! The more you know!
What Could’ve Been Better:
Sometimes while reading, I forgot some of the details. I’m not sure if it’s because the details weren’t important enough or if it’s because the details just didn’t matter.
For example, I think it takes place in Omaha? Part of Abi’s facade is she splits time working remotely and traveling somewhere else. They also road trip to Kansas City and then fly to New York.Β
