Librarian’s Note
A frequent Scooter’s customer, Isabella just has to have her first PSL of the season – even if she’s running late for an interview for her dream job. Not wanting to be too late, she grabs someone else’s PSL. One latte, two names, and a messy situation later… Blake likes his rules and boundaries, especially when it comes to work. Isabella pushes those boundaries in every way, but how far can they go?

π The Romance & Relationship
The relationship is fun and lighthearted, especially since they’re always doing activities like game night, food trucks, facetimes, etc. It doesn’t feel like there’s much depth, like a serious relationship. Since the whole work situation complicates things, it still feels like they’re in the early stages of dating (thus the first comment).Β
While you can tell they’re obviously attracted to each other, there aren’t many scenes that show how deeply they care for one another. The very few scenes that do are near the end, and are more of a resolution/conclusion than details that add to the layers of the relationship.

π₯ The Characters
Isabella (Scooter’s Amy)
Oh Isabella, how very relatable you are. It’s easy to root for lovable and charismatic characters! She’s described as a bit introverted but every social interaction she had, she was energetic and enthusiastic. Even when she didn’t have good news, she still reacted well!
Every chance she got, Iz spoke her mind and I think that is what made her relatable. If we (us readers) were in a similar situation, whatever we’re thinking, she’ll say it out loud. Maybe not all the unhinged things, but a fair amount of the responses and reactions.
Blake (Mr. Chest)
I want to start by mentioning Blake’s nickname throughout the entire book does eventually become cringe to read. Sure, he was the VP at work, and outside of work, he was Mr. Chest. While Isabella goes through so many variations of her nickname, Blake’s consistently circles back to Mr. Chest.
Blake’s character starts off very headstrong, as he’s meant to. He had trauma from a past relationship, that might or might not have enforced his strictness for rules. There are no gray areas with him. I wish we could’ve seen his growth in ways unrelated to his relationship with Isabella. Like, is she the only exception or?
Theo
Got to show love to the side characters! Blake’s family appears a bit, but Theo was there from beginning to end (along with the Darkling, of course). He is Isabella’s cousin, best friend, and biggest supporter.Β

βοΈ The Setting & Style
What I Loved:
I loved that the third act breakup, if you can even call it that, made sense. Now I’m not a fan of that plot device, but it was used excellently in this book. How the situation unfolded, how the characters reacted, how the situation was resolved, it was all wrapped up and tied neatly with a bow! Love that!
What Could’ve Been Better:
Writing trends evolve and change over time, so it’s something to keep in mind while reading books. There’s a lot of texting in the book and I personally don’t mind it because it ties in with the plot. However, for those who may not like that style of writing, it might come off as cringe and take away from the book.
